Our Story
The Miami Joy Project was founded by Max Vedrani and Kelly Vedrani after seeing, up close, how much support families of children with special needs truly need.
As a family with a child who has special needs and severe epilepsy, they understand the challenges many families face every day. While their own family was able to find support, they quickly realized that many others were not as fortunate. Financial stress often makes it hard for families to meet even the most basic needs.
The idea for Miami Joy Project began while their son was attending a PPEC center, where they connected with Arlene Rojas Weiss, now one of the organization’s directors. Through this experience, they saw a community of families facing overwhelming challenges—some struggling to afford food, clothing, or essential care items.
What started as small acts of help soon turned into something bigger. When asked to help celebrate the birthday of a 13-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who had never had a birthday party before, they said yes without hesitation. That celebration became the first of many, as they began honoring children each month with meaningful, joy-filled moments.
During the holiday season, a simple gift drive shared within the community resulted in over 100 gifts being donated in just minutes. The response made it clear—people wanted to help, and these moments of joy mattered.
From that point on, The Miami Joy Project was created to continue bringing happiness to children with special needs by celebrating birthdays, holidays, and life’s special moments—while reminding families that they are supported, seen, and not alone.
